VOLUNTARY organizations throughout St Lucia have been busy this season spreading cheer and goodwill and the Rotary community was no exception
The Rotaract Club targeted the elderly at The St. Lucy’s Home presenting much needed supplies such as toiletries and foodstuffs. Residents were also treated to traditional Christmas carols sung by the Rotaractors.
The Club chose St Lucy’s because it believed that it was one that was usually forgotten, especially during the festive season. Members of the club felt that it was their responsibility to assist the home in experiencing the Christmas cheer this year.
The Rotaract Club of St. Lucia is the youth arm of Rotary International, chartered on April 22, 1985. It promotes international understanding and peace and strives to build stronger communities.
The parent Rotary Club of St.Lucia held its annual children’s Christmas party at the Roseau Combined School for over 70 boys and girls.
One could have seen the joy on the faces of the young ones, when they received their toys from Santa Claus. At the end of the party students and teachers joined together to thank the Rotarians and present them with a giant Christmas card.
President of the Rotary club of St. Lucia Chester Hinkson said, “In all the years we have been doing this, it’s the first time we are getting such a thank you. This almost brought us to tears….. we came to give to you, but in return you gave to us”
Hinkson added, “We will continue the spirit of giving on January 2 at the Castries Town Hall when club members will come out in full force to help at our annual treat for senior citizens”
