Grenada Launches Invitational Meeting Today

PRIME Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell and Sports Minister Roland Bhola are among officials to attend the launch of the Grenada Invitational at the National Stadium today. Dr. Mitchell and Mr. Bhola will join members of the athletics fraternity, sponsors and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) at the event which will coincide with the 100-day countdown of the inaugural Grenada Invitational scheduled for April 8, 2017.

Vieux Fort South Take U-21 Title

VIEUX Fort South captured the Saint Lucia Football Association-sponsored inaugural Vizions Men’s Under-21 Football Tournament title, defeating Soufriere 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 1-1 score-line at the end of regulation time on Wednesday evening at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort. Playing before a crowd estimated at 1,300 fans, VFS squandered four scoring opportunities in front of goal in the first seven minutes of the encounter. Despite the misses, however, they were able to settle down somewhat as Jervic Mc. Farlane opened the scoring after their fifth try at goal in the 12th minute to put the team ahead.

Rugby: Curtains for 2016

ROGUES Rugby male team from Saint Lucia and Guadeloupe’s female team shared honours as the curtains came down on the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union’s calendar of events this past Saturday at the Gros Islet playing field. In what can best be described as a keenly-contested showdown of all among the matches played under the scorching heat, the Guadeloupe ladies were made to fight for their, win while it was a walk in the park for the Saint Lucian men.

SWIMMER Mikaela Shae Casimir just keeps practising and chasing down personal performances in the pool with an eye on the next level of competition, the International Swimming Federation World Swimming Championships (FINA) and the Olympic Games. Mikaela took a time-out during a break at the Lucian Gran Prix Swim Meet held at the Rodney Height Aquatic Centre recently to speak with The VOICE about her career in swimming and plans for the future.

UNDER-21 FINALS — Soufriere And VFort South Meet Tomorrow

THE final of the inaugural Men’s Under-21 Vizions Football Tournament sponsored by the Saint Lucia Football Association will kick off from 7:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort when Soufriere and Vieux Fort South play for glory. The two teams made it to the final with wins over Marchand and Vieux Fort North respectively last weekend when they scored nine goals between them at the same venue. Soufriere thrashed Marchand 4-0 while Vieux Fort South with four goals from the boots of Antonio Joseph defeated neighbours VFN 5-1.

RUGBY FINALE – Female Guadeloupe Players in Action at Gros Islet Today

THE Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) hosts its final tournament for 2016 today, dubbed “National Day Sevens” at the Gros Islet Playing Field. According to the SLRFU, it has been a sensational year for rugby in Saint Lucia and the Union is ensuring to end the year on a high note. Local male and female teams will be going head to head for the chance to be the champions.

Mabouya Valley Football Finals Tomorrow

FOOTBALL fans are expected to converge on the La Ressource playing field tomorrow to witness the finals of the Mabouya Valley Youth and Sports/Shawn Edward sponsored tournament that is scheduled to kick off from 3:30 p.m. Contesting the finals will be Survivals and the winner of today’s second semi final penalty shootout between Aux Lyon United and Togetherness Youth. The regulation match was played on Wednesday and ended in a 2-2 draw in fading light. The referee decided not to proceed with the penalty duel because of the conditions.

Gayle In Stunning Move To Patriots

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Dec 15, CMC – St. Kitts Patriots announced on Thursday their stunning acquisition of Twenty20 batting sensation Chris Gayle from the Jamaica Tallawahs for the next season of the Caribbean Premier League. The transfer means that the talismanic left-handed opener has cut ties with the Tallawahs, the CPL franchise based in his native Jamaica, which he has twice led to the title, including last year.

THE inaugural Long Board event in Castries on Tuesday saved the day for a number of sports enthusiasts who were looking for some kind of exciting activity on the island’s National Day. Fans lined the route from the junction of Bois Catchet to the bottom of old Morne Road to take in what can best be described as an event of “daring” as 18 competitors jostled for positions and leads.

WITH less than three weeks before the commencement of the 2017 track and field season over 60 enterprising young Saint Lucian athletes are pursuing their dreams of regional and international representation, with support from ordinary citizens and the corporate sector. Morne Stars Athletics Club, one of the island’s leading track and field outfits, has set out on a series of fundraising activities, in order to buy uniforms, equipment and shoes, and to take part in regional competition for the season.

Boxers Win 6 Medals In B’dos

SAINT Lucia’s Omar Christopher captured the only gold medal for his country and was voted the Best Junior Boxer with two wins when the curtains came down on the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament held at the Sea Rocks Dome in Maxwell, Barbados last weekend. Saint Lucia captured 6 medals that included 1 gold (Christopher), 2 silvers (Nathan Ferrari, Lyndon Marcellin) and 3 bronze (Leslie Joseph, Marvin Anthony and Arthur Langelier); while Kareem Boyce and JavannusFevrier failed to make a podium finish.

THE curtains came down Tuesday evening on the inaugural St. Lucia Sports online Gros Islet Football League competition with the finals at the Gros Islet Playing Field. In front of an appreciative crowd of football supporters Massy Northern United continued their good run as they trounced Sandals 7 – 0 and emerge champions. At the half time whistle of Referee John Eugene, the score was 3 – 0 in favour of MNU with goals from Aramis Gilbert in the 3rd minute, Troy Greenidge in the 19th minute and Daniel Denis in the 22nd minute.

SLTA Camp for Under 12s A Success

THE St Lucia Tennis Association successfully hosted a five day overnight training and development camp which ended yesterday for 12 & under players at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Beausejour, Gros Islet. Players from training programmes at the NTC and the grassroots programme had an opportunity to play tennis and receive lots of instructions from our National Coach from Cuba Carlos Lopez and local Coach Ricardo Francois.
