Help With Hearing

PERSONS in St Lucia with hearing problems will soon be able to get assistance thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Starkey Hearing Foundation of the United States. Statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicate that more than 360 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss with the highest percentage in developing countries. However, half of all hearing loss is preventable through early detection and primary health care intervention.

Spinoffs of Upgraded Gros Piton Trail

ON December 8 the Soufriere Foundation officially opened and now manages the operations at an additional entrance to the Gros Piton climbing experience through the Anse L’Ivrogne Beach. The trail having been previously utilized by unauthorized guided tour groups, received a full aesthetics boost with the inclusion of a security and cashiers booth, the provision of bathroom amenities with other structural enhancements and the employment of fully trained tour guides to sufficiently support the growing appeal for the product.

First Kidney Transplant In OECS

THE Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) has congratulated Antigua and Barbuda following the first kidney transplant operation to be done in the sub-region. “This operation had ushered in a new era of health care proficiency within the region driven by a whole of government approach in collaboration with local health authorities and regional health coordinating groups including the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA)” said OECS Director General Dr.Didacus Jules.
