The skills acquired by a number of students who recently completed a variety of programmes at the National Skills Development Centre (NSDC) in Vieux-Fort recently, were brought to the fore at an exposition, held at the centre last Wednesday.
The students displayed their skills in bartending, massage therapy, food and beverage, pastries and cake making, among others.
“The expo will give residents of the south an opportunity to view the finished products of the students and what they are capable of doing through technical and vocational training,” John Victorin, supervisor and marketing manager of the centre told The VOICE.
He said that the level of interest shown in the programme was growing, adding that in the last semester130 students did the programmes.
“We expect the number of students registered in the various programmes offered by the centre to increase as time goes by,” Victorin said.
Patrons came out in large numbers to the expo, and from all indications they enjoyed every moment of it. They savoured the produce of the students with much delight and kept asking for more.
Jeanie Stephens, a patron said: “I am very pleased with what I saw. The programme is a good investment for the trainees.”
She said she was particularly impressed with the massage therapy, segment adding that the event was well organized.
“It was fantastic. It is better than all the other exhibitions I have attended,” CleminaCenac, another patron said.
She added that Saint Lucia had a lot of talent that needed to be properly utilized.
In an interview with The VOICE, the students said they will use the knowledge they acquired at the centre to improve their well being.
