Saint Lucia Records 18 New COVID-19 Cases

PRESS RELEASE — The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Tuesday, October 5, 2021, confirms a total of eighteen (18) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 88 samples which were collected between October 2 and October 4, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 20.4% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 11, 727.

The Ministry of Health also reports six (6) new COVID-19 deaths. All these deaths occurred during the period September 29, 2021 to October 4, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID- 19 deaths in country is 167 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 48.

COVID-19 death #162 is a 53 year old female from the Dennery district. COVID-19 death #163 is a 53 year old male of the Vieux- Fort district. COVID-19 death #164 is a 60 year old male from the Vieux- Fort district. COVID-19 death #165 is a 64 year old female from the Vieux Fort district. COVID-19 death #166 is a 83 year old female from the Vieux Fort district. COVID-19 death #167 is a 64 year old male from the Gros Islet district.

The Ministry of Health extends condolences to the bereaved families, friends and loved ones of all of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 149 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 1,267. One (1) individual is in critical state while seven (7) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 36,103 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29,769 have received the second dose. A total of 10,629 individuals have received the first dose and 3,822 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Vigie Sports Complex, Dennery Mothers’ Pre-School and the St. Anthony Medical Center at its Vieux Fort location. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at all sites from 9 am to 2 pm.
