Saint Lucian on FINA’s List of International-Level Officials

 One Saint Lucian is amongst FINA, the governing body of swimming, list of international-level officials for January 2021 through December 2024.

The list includes 482 officials from 126 federations.

Making the list of international – level officials is Saint Lucian, Hilroy Emanus.

Hilroy last major officiating event was the FINA Worlds Juniors in Budapest, Hungary, August 20th -25th in 2019 where three of Saint Lucia finest female swimmers took part in the championship – Naima Hazell, Naekeisha Louis and the 2019 Junior Sportswoman for the Year, Mikaili Charlemagne.

Other Caribbean countries making the FINA list includes: Antigua and Barbuda (4), Aruba (3), Bahamas (3), Barbados (4), Cuba (5), Dominican Republic (3), Guyana (2), Jamaica (5), Puerto Rico(2) Venezuela (3) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (1).

According to FINA, these officials will be eligible for international FINA competitions now to the end of 2024, including the next two long course World Championships, the next two short course World Championships, the next two World Juniors, and the 2024 Olympics.

Below are some of the criterions that would make one eligible to be a FINA official, as outlined by Executive Director Cornel Marculescu: Only Referees and Starters who have served in these positions at a minimum of two National Championships (Seniors, Juniors or Age Group) during the last four years can be accepted.

Age limit: not older than 65 years by December 31st in the year when application is made for the respective FINA List.

Each Federation can have three Referees and two Starters on the list

Federations organizing the above-mentioned competitions can have up to eight Referees combined on Lists No. 20 and No 21.

The Swimming Official has to be citizen, whether by birth or naturalization, of the nation he/she represents.
