Weather permitting, the action continues at the Sandals Golf and Country Club in Cap Estate today (Monday 27th July) when 20 aspiring young golfers from Grow Well Junior Golf Programme (GWJGP) enters week No.2, the event is in collaboration with Sandals.
The GWJGP is now into its 10th year and has introduced the game of golf to more than 100 youths from Gros Islet and its environs, providing professional lessons to not only help the juniors improve their golf skills, but help to create future productive citizens who contribute to their communities.
On Thursday 23rd July, despite a light shower, it was not long enough to dampen the spirit of the junior golfers and their enthusiastic coach. Coach Henix started the morning with a five-minute meditation session. It was an unusual start to the day and seemed highly appreciated by all the golfers.
Thursday been the final day of Week 1 everyone went on the course, much to their delight, especially the new players who could finally put it all together — all that they had been having fun learning on the driving range and on the putting green.
According to Grow Well Co-founder/Director Collen Newman, “At the end of the day, Rayshorn Joseph spoke on behalf of the golfers, thanking Coach Henix Joseph and Coach Cliff Alcide, and our monitors, Mary Sidoine and Ms St. Luce. He also encouraged a round of applause for Simone Skinner and Sandals management team on a great day on the course”.
Colleen said, “The three days worked out so well that we asked Sandals management for the same 3-day schedule for the second week. So, today (Monday 27th) red shirts, Tuesday 28th blue and white, and Thursday 30th, green. Let’s golf and have fun!”.
Meanwhile, the 20 participants are reminded to bring along their short personal essay on this year’s theme “Ambition”.
