CANARIES beat Mabouya in a hard-fought encounter, securing the championship title of the inaugural SLFA Inc. Boys Under-12 District League Primary Schools football tournament.
In the final held on Saturday, 12th April, at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, the west-coast team triumphed over early frontrunners Mabouya Valley with a score of 4 – 3 in an intense penalty shootout, following a goalless regulation time.
This is a well-deserved victory for Canaries, who demonstrated significant improvement as the tournament progressed.

Vieux Fort South exhibited consistent performance throughout the tournament and confidently claimed the Third-Place trophy, defeating Desruisseaux 3 – 0, having established a 2 – 0 lead at halftime.
Trevon Halls scored twice, in the 8th and 21st minutes for a brace, and Benaim Poyotte added a goal in the 55th minute, assuring the southern contenders a podium finish in this exciting junior football competition.
According to the organizers, it was a wonderful day of thrilling football, with all teams deserving commendation for their impressive performances in this inaugural tournament.
During the post-match presentation:
– Canaries received the Winner’s Trophy and their gold medals.
– Mabouya Valley was awarded the Runners-Up Trophy and silver medals.
– Vieux Fort South collected their Third Place Trophy and bronze medals.
