FOLLOWING on the heels of crushing Bangladesh last week by an innings and 219 runs in just seven sessions, to record their fifth-largest Test victory ever and grab an all-important 1-0 lead in the two-match series; the West Indies selectors have called young fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph in the 13-man Test Squad to face the visitors in the 2nd Test which starts at Sabina Park today.
Joseph on his return to international cricket was the most successful bowler for the President’s XI side vs Bangladesh with 4 for 53 from 15 overs just under two weeks ago.
Absent from the squad is Kemar Roach who has been ordered to rest following a hamstring strain he suffered in the first innings of the Test in Antigua which the WINDIES won by an inning and 219 runs.
The squad reads: Jason Holder – Captain, Devendra Bishoo, Kraigg Brathwaite, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Alzarri Joseph, Shai Hope, Keemo Paul, Kieran Powell and Devon Smith.
The win in the first Test, saw some positive movements in the ICC rankings for several players. Roach, 20th and Brathwaite, 16th are now in the Top 20 in bowling and batting respectively; while Captain Holder moves up two places to 52nd in the batting and to 23rd in the bowling.
Other players to be tagged in the ranking are Kieran Powell up five places to 61st and Miguel Cummins, up 12 places to 55th.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago opening batsman Evin Lewis dropped two spots but still remains the highest ranked West Indian batsman, while Samuel Badree maintained his bowling rank when the ICC released its latest T20I player rankings on Monday.
Lewis slipped from number five to number seven, but still remains the only Windies player in the top 20 having accumulated 753 points.
He is only eight points behind Australian Glenn Maxwell (761) who dropped three spots to sixth.
Maxwell’s teammate Aaron Finch currently sits atop the rankings with 900 points, becoming the first player in T20 history to break the 900-point mark.
The West Indies have two players among the top 20 bowlers, thanks to Trinidad and Tobago’s spinning duo of Badree, who holds on to his number five ranking with 674 points, and Sunil Narine, who slipped one place to be ranked 18th on 587 points.
Banlgadesh’s Rashid Khan (816) is still the number one ranked bowler with Shadab Khan of Pakistan (769) a distant second.
The West Indies are still the seventh-ranked T20 team on 114 points, the same as sixth-ranked South Africa.
Australia, plus the next nine highest-ranked sides, will automatically qualify for the ICC Men’s World T20 2020 to be held in Australia.
