THE Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia-Cuba), in collaboration with the Embassy of Cuba, hosted a film presentation at the Centre of Excellence in Reunion in Choiseul last Saturday, June 23.
The film, entitled “El Ojo Del Canario” (The Eye of the Canary), was produced by Cuban filmmaker Fernando Perez in 2010, inspired by the childhood and adolescence of José Martí, a Cuban National Hero, who, at the tender age of 16, was imprisoned by the colonial authorities.
The film was preceded by welcome remarks from Chairman of the HSA South Committee Peter Phillip, President of the HSA Marlene Alexander and Cuban Ambassador to Saint Lucia Jorge Soberon Luis.
Besides his warm greetings of genuine appreciation and welcome, the Ambassador treated the gathering to a background to that historic film, based on an understanding of Cuban history and culture in the dynamic 19th century pre-revolutionary era.
The event was part of HSA’s several initiatives, in keeping with its mandate to promote friendship and solidarity between the people of Saint Lucia and Cuba and its ongoing drive to increase membership participation in the south.
At the end of the presentation, Bro. Davidson Lionel, member of the South Committee, delivered the vote of thanks.
