THREE teams locked on nine points each in the 2018 Saint Lucia Football Association Division 1 Cup after Wednesday night games at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort, and the Anse la Raye playing field.
In front of an appreciative crowd of football supporters, home team Uptown Rebels took on defending champions Massy Northern United All Stars from Gros Islet while Platinum FC and TiRocher squared off in the evening’s double header.
The Massy Northern United and Uptown Rebels game remained goalless at the end of the first half despite two scoring chances at either end of the pitch. Carrying the whistle for that match was Referee Barry Justin.
On the resumption, both teams look like they meant business but that was not to be, as they seem to have difficulties in controlling the ball due to the field’s poor condition.
The dead lock was finally broken with a Jervic Mc Farlane 88th minute goal that sealed the victory for Uptown Rebels. Northern United’s defender Trevon St. Prix headed the ball back to his own goal keeper Jervon St. Prix. Jevon failed to collect giving Mc Farlane an open window. The win puts Uptown within one point of the table leaders.
In the first game of the evening double Platinum FC (Vieux Fort) and Ti Rocher FC (Micoud) played to a 1 – 1 draw.
Molice Lubrin put TiRocher FC ahead in the 33rd minute only to enjoy the halftime advantage. Platinum FC, on the resumption, upped the tempo just a notch and in so doing found the much deserved equalizer in the 55th minute of play through Javid Joseph and despite some clear scoring opportunities at either end of the pitch the two teams had to settle for a share of the points.
Meanwhile, in another close encounter, home team Allez from Anse la Raye took on top of the table VSADC. In this encounter, VSADC got on the score sheet first and for a brief moment topped the points table in this tournament.
As they did in their last game and with their crowd support behind them, Allez would come fighting back as they went on to level the scoreline mid-way through the second half. No further goals were scored and as a result, the game ended in a 1 – 1 draw.
Three teams are level on points at the top of the table. Platinum FC (Vieux Fort) has 9 points and a superior goal difference to VSADC (Castries) who is also on 9 points. The other team sitting on top of the competition is Big Players (Marchand) who defeated RV Juniors on Wednesday evening.
Matches continue on March 7 and 14 at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds (Vieux Fort) and Anse la Raye playing field respectively.
