THE first annual lecture commemorating the late politician and minister of government, George Odlum, will be held at the CDF Conference Room (National Cultural Centre) next Tuesday, at 6:00 p.m.
The initial lecture will be delivered by Mr. Earl Huntley, retired St. Lucian diplomat and currently an international relations and media consultant with extensive experience in both fields.
The title of Huntley’s Lecture is: “Small states diplomacy in time of worldwide economic scarcity”.
Huntley has a background of approximately 30 years working in Diplomacy and International Relations at senior level positions, including Permanent Secretary of St. Lucia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador to the Caribbean and lately, Director of CARICOM Representation Office in Haiti.
Coordinator of the lecture series, Jerry George, says the first lecture will touch only on one area of Odlum’s life, but an area where he did well in the service of the people of St. Lucia, diplomacy. George added that lectures in future years will look also at other aspects of Odlum’s contributions, especially in the arts and in sports.
The lecture is open to the public.
There will also be church services in Odlum’s remembrance at 6.00 p.m. at the St. Joseph the Worker RC Church, Gros-Islet, and at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Castries, on Monday.
