La Clery showcased their dominance in the Semi-Professional Football League (SPFL) this week with a commanding 2-0 victory over Gros Islet at the Francis “Baba” Lastic Grounds on Wednesday.
In the fourth round of the SPFL, the back-to-back defending champions climbed to joint top of the table following this decisive win.
Although the first half ended goalless, La Clery ramped up their offensive intensity after the break, scoring two pivotal goals. Yanic Noel broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a shot from just outside the six-yard box, assisted by the skillful interplay between Mervin St Romain and Erickson Magloire. Baggio Edward cemented the victory four minutes into stoppage time, expertly curling the ball over an advancing goalkeeper into the far corner of the net.
Despite Gros Islet’s pressing efforts for an equalizer, goalkeeper Devone St Prix was resolute, displaying remarkable skill and composure.
The victory left Gros Islet in a precarious position, above the relegation zone but with only one win from four games, totaling three points, and ahead of Central solely on goal difference.
In another match, Central Castries edged out Anse La Raye 2-1, claiming their first points of the season. Following a scoreless first half, Pernal Williams put Central ahead in the 66th minute.
Anse La Raye equalized through Erick Gabriel’s penalty in the 73rd minute, but an unfortunate own goal by Gabriel just a minute later handed Central the win. Central now sits in ninth place in the league, ahead of only Mabouya Valley, who have yet to secure a victory.
In a thrilling Tier II clash on Tuesday, Laborie overwhelmed Babonneau with an 8-2 rout, overcoming a 2-1 halftime deficit. Babonneau’s goals came from P Joseph and L Cazaubon, while Laborie’s impressive performance featured goals from K Joyeux, J Ferdinand (who netted a hat trick), G Louis, K Yarde, and V Jn. Charles.
Additionally, Tuesday saw a “mini-southern derby” between Vieux Fort North and Vieux Fort South end in a dramatic 2-2 draw, with C Gilbert and E Popo scoring for North, while B Alfred struck twice for South to level the match.
The SPFL continued on Friday , with Tier 2’s Super League featuring Micoud against Choiseul, and Tier 1’s Premier League presenting a matchup between Dennery and Vieux Fort North.
