Kings Eye Redemption Against Tridents in CPL T20 Clash

Today (Wednesday), the St Lucia Kings are gearing up for a pivotal showdown against the Barbados Tridents at North Sound, Antigua. This match carries a special significance for the Kings, as they seek to avenge a narrow nine-run defeat suffered at the hands of the Tridents during their previous encounter at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground (DSCG) last week (August 16).

Last Friday night, the atmosphere at the DSCG resembled a celebration with enthusiastic local fans cheering on, as the Kings delivered a commanding performance against the Jamaica Kingsmen in a crucial game.

Match Summary: St Lucia Kings 171 for 4 (Pooran 81*, Pienaar 34*; Lades 2-22, Hunain 2-34) defeated Jamaica Kingsmen 169 for 9 (Carty 50; Forde 5-23) by six wickets.

Keacy Carter was the standout performer for the Kingsmen, scoring 50 runs off 40 balls, while the Kings showcased their bowling prowess with seam bowler Matthew Forde delivering a remarkable spell that secured him figures of 5 for 23 in just 4 overs—the best of his CPL T20 career to date. The Kingsmen’s innings started poorly, collapsing to 71/6 at one point.

Late contributions from Andre Russell (25 off 15) and Odean Smith (27 off 19) helped stabilize the innings, but it was not enough as they fell to 169.

Sent in to bat, the Kingsmen faced an uphill battle after losing five wickets during the powerplay. Forde’s exceptional form saw him dismiss key players, including Usman Khan (28 off 11) and Rovman Powell (golden duck), effectively crippling the Kingsmen’s batting lineup.
