In Tier 1 action, Dennery secured a crucial victory, moving them up to second place, while Soufriere climbed to third after a draw against Mabouya Valley.
In a tightly contested match, Dennery triumphed over Canaries with a score of 2-1. The east-coast contenders began strong, with Jamie Prospere dazzling fans by scoring a spectacular acrobatic goal in the 41st minute, giving Dennery a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Canaries fought back and leveled the score when Cassius Joseph netted the equalizer with about 30 minutes remaining, finishing off a fine through ball from Mc. Louis. Determined to regain the lead, Dennery intensified their offensive efforts.
Just six minutes later, Kurt Frederick’s corner kick found Newton Marshall, whose header was deflected off Oneal Toussaint, resulting in an own goal and bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of Dennery. This victory elevated Dennery from fifth place, edging ahead of Canaries.
In the second match, Soufriere faced off against Mabouya Valley, resulting in a 1-1 draw, despite Soufriere playing a man down after goalkeeper Maju Riviere was ejected just before halftime.
Mahvy Rismay scored for Soufriere on the stroke of halftime, but they ultimately conceded in the 67th minute when Torian Joseph finished a swift counterattack, marking his second goal of the season.
Tier 1 SPFL action continued on Tuesday at the Francis “Baba” Lastic Grounds, featuring a southern mini-derby between Vieux Fort North and league leaders Vieux Fort South.
Additionally, in the SLFA Inc. Senior Women’s competition on Monday at the same venue, table-toppers Canaries narrowly defeated Dennery 1-0, thanks to a goal by Casandra Shepherd in the 46th minute.
Dennery’s goalkeeper, Maverlyn Dupigny, made several impressive saves to keep the scoreline manageable.
Anse La Raye rebounded from a previous defeat with a commanding 5-1 victory over debutants Gros Islet. The goal scorers for Anse La Raye included Kayla Polius (4th & 60th minutes), Destiny Henry (44th & 51st minutes), and Sheriella Arthur (20th minute), while Gros Islet’s Makayla Joseph found the net in the 17th minute.
