Lights, camera, action! The iconic Take Over Tent (TOT) marks a significant milestone as it celebrates its 45th anniversary.

On Saturday, May 23, TOT will host a grand show at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) to honour Saint Lucia’s rich cultural heritage through vibrant Kaiso music, clever commentary, and dynamic performances.

As one of the island’s foremost calypso institutions, TOT continues to promote national pride and social reflection through its artistic expression. The event at the NCC promises an electrifying night filled with entertainment, unity, and celebration, marking a pivotal moment in Saint Lucia’s Carnival season.

Veteran entertainer, songwriter, and performer Herb Black is also being recognized this year as he celebrates 40 years of contributions to the local art form.

Beyond a mere tent, TOT serves as a platform for launching local talent and nurturing young artists.

Supporters, TOT stalwarts, artists, management team members, and other personnel gathered to reflect on the developments and challenges leading up to this momentous occasion.

Highlights of the celebrations include the unveiling of a 45-event schedule of activities. This agenda features the Champions’ Crown Challenge, and Veterans vs. Youngsters gig – a friendly rivalry between veterans and youngsters, and other engaging entertainment and social initiatives.

As TOT celebrates 45 years of calypso excellence, it honors a legacy of music, cultural commentary, and preservation in Saint Lucia. The tent is recognized as a driving force in preserving and rejuvenating the genre’s cultural essence, focusing on keeping traditional Kaiso alive amidst the rising prominence of soca.
