
The Ciceron Secondary School community is proudly celebrating an outstanding performance at Island Champs 2026, where the school’s inter-secondary track team captured an impressive six medals, highlighting the talent, determination, and discipline of its young athletes.
The school extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Stephen King, respected Saint Lucian doctor, community advocate, and supporter of youth development, whose continued contributions have helped strengthen opportunities for student athletes at Ciceron Secondary School.
Dr. King is widely recognized for his commitment to creating safe spaces for young people and helping communities thrive across Saint Lucia. He is also associated with STRIVE, an organization dedicated to empowerment and positive community engagement.
Dr. King has played a meaningful role in encouraging athletic excellence and youth empowerment by contributing to the development and preparation of the athletes. His continued support demonstrates his commitment to investing in the nation’s youth and creating opportunities for growth through sports.
In a release from the school, special mention was made of long-standing national team coaches and leaders, Cuthbert Modeste (SP Survivors) and Mr. Henry Bailey (SLAA) for their relentless contributions throughout the years, along with Mr. Asa Lionel (Elite Athletics Club) with the Ciceron Secondary School Sports Department led by Mr. Tariq Edward, whose exemplary leadership and commitment to the highest standards of athletic management and support have continued to strengthen the school’s sporting programme throughout the years.
Under the leadership of team manager Mrs. Sue Paul, whose guidance and commitment greatly contributed to the team’s success, the athletes flourished under the direction of Ciceron Secondary School’s intersecondary coach, Delan Edwin —one of Saint Lucia’s distinguished sprinting figures. Coach Edwin, a proud Saint Lucian and former standout athlete associated with Texas A&M University, has continued to make a significant impact on youth athletics through his discipline, mentorship, and high-performance training approach. His accomplishments and experience in sprinting at both national and international levels have inspired the next generation of athletes at Ciceron Secondary School, helping to elevate the programme’s competitive standard and athletic culture.
Together, their commitment has helped shape generations of student-athletes and continues to inspire sporting excellence at Ciceron Secondary School.
Among the outstanding achievements at Island Champs 2026:
- The under-18 boys’ 1500 m silver medalist, Lufan Fortune, with an exceptional performance.
- The under-18 girls’ 4×100 m relay team earned bronze medals. Team members included:
Eva Charles, Jonnica Eugene, Jeanaica Leonce and Kendra Sylvester. - Shakila Samuel also secured a bronze medal in the Open Girls 3000 m event.
These achievements reflect the hard work of the athletes, coaching staff, parents, and supporters who continue to believe in the power of sports to inspire excellence and opportunity among Saint Lucia’s youth.
