The recent launch of the National Authentication Framework (NAF) marks a significant step in the government’s effort to transform and modernize public service in Saint Lucia.

Unveiled last week, the NAF is a key milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.

Public Service and Utilities Regulation Minister Stephenson King described the NAF as a defining moment in Saint Lucia’s national development and an essential part of the digital transformation agenda.

“For some time now, since 1996, the government has sought to reform the public service, eventually leading to this initiative to modernize it,” he stated at a media briefing on Monday.

Minister King emphasized that a crucial aspect of the NAF is to provide unique identification for every citizen in the country. Through the NAF, “Every Saint Lucian will be registered, and every new citizen will receive a unique identity with a specific number,” he added.

This ID number will enable citizens to conduct legal activities and access government platforms for various transactions.

The Minister said that this procedure will enhance efficiency within public services, improving accessibility and service delivery. He stated, “The NAF provides access to all government services,” ensuring that the government becomes more efficient, user-friendly, and transparent.

Additionally, it will facilitate the better movement of people and transportation within the country.

Minister King pointed out that the NAF initiative will also benefit individuals and businesses. He acknowledged the contributions of former government ministers and others who have supported the modernization of public service.

With the media launch concluded, Minister King urged citizens to get registered. He mentioned that the NAF will help eliminate challenges parents face when registering their children after birth in hospitals and address existing issues related to birth and baptismal records.

At the launch, he emphasized that the NAF is vital for establishing foundational pillars for future public service delivery and modern governance in Saint Lucia. “NAF connects government, citizens, and the private sector through shared digital infrastructure based on trust, security, and accountability,” he said.
Minister King outlined the government’s ambitious vision: to position Saint Lucia as the most technologically-driven Small Island Developing State, enabling its citizens to efficiently and sustainably produce valuable goods and services while leveraging global digital opportunities.

The NAF will also foster an environment for growth and improve data sharing. Minister King described it as a “national development public asset,” designed to enhance transparency and accessibility to government services throughout the ongoing public sector modernization process.
