A physical altercation between two minibus drivers from Belle Vue, Vieux-Fort last week, has triggered sharp criticism from their colleagues and commuters.
The incident has resulted in one of the minibus drivers being injured to the head with a weapon.
The chilling incident occurred in the presence several agitated commuters.
Some minibus drivers, who ply various routes in the south, said they can’t remember any such incident happening in that part of the island. According to them, there have been squabbles among minibus divers, but it had never reached a point where there were injuries to any of them.
According to multiple residents of Belle Vue, they were not surprised by the incident because of the behavior of some of those minibus drivers who ply the Vieux Fort-Belle-Vue route.
Some minibus drivers and commuters have described the behavior of the two bus drivers as unruly and uncivil.
“Some minibus drivers quarrel over simple matters. They are quick to threaten you and curse your mother,” a driver who does not wish to be identified told this reporter.
According to commuters who witnessed the incident between the two bus drivers at Belle Vue, what they displayed was ignorance at the highest level.
As a result of the incident, some minibus drivers in the south are calling on the authorities to find ways of instilling discipline in some of their colleagues in that part of the island.
“Not any driver deserves a route band,” a minibus driver said.
