Cops Apprehend Suspect in Postal Package Drugs Bust

.

Police have arrested and are prosecuting an individual implicated in the trafficking of a significant quantity of cocaine, which was found concealed in a postal package.

On August 15, a targeted operation aimed at outgoing packages at the General Post Office on Bridge Street, Castries, resulted in the interception of a substantial amount of cocaine set for export. This operation was conducted by the Customs and Excise Department, with strong support from the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNF) and the K9 Unit, responding to a surge in drug trafficking via the postal system.

Packages from the Vieux Fort Post Office, scheduled for onward transit through George F. L. Charles Airport, were also under scrutiny.

During the inspection, a cardboard box labeled “Seamoss” raised suspicion. Upon examination, officers uncovered four bricks of a solid whitish substance hidden inside. A field test confirmed that the substance was cocaine, weighing 3.44 kilograms and holding an estimated street value of $86,000.00 EC.

The cocaine was duly photographed, packaged, and sealed in the presence of GNF investigators. Immediate investigations commenced. Intelligence from the GNF South Branch led to the identification of Neil Alexander as the sender of the package.

Plans were swiftly executed to locate and apprehend him. On September 3, 2025, a joint operation by GNF North and South, supported by the Southern Tactical Team, executed a search warrant at Neil Alexander’s residence in Pierrot, Vieux Fort.

He was informed of his offenses, cautioned, and arrested.

On September 4, Neil Alexander faced formal charges, including Possession of Cocaine and attempts to Export Cocaine under the Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act of Saint Lucia, as well as attempting to Export Prohibited Goods and Fraudulent Evasion under the Customs (Control and Management) Act.

On September 5, Alexander appeared in court to answer the charges. He was granted bail of EC $27,900, with strict conditions, including surrendering all travel documents, restrictions on travel outside Saint Lucia, and reporting requirements as determined by the court.

Commissioner of Police Verne Garde commended the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit and the Customs and Excise Department for their effective collaboration. This partnership has led to multiple successful investigations and interdictions in recent months.

The interception of 3.44 kilograms of cocaine in a postal package signifies a critical disruption of efforts to smuggle drugs out of the country. Investigations are ongoing as law enforcement targets the broader network involved in this operation.
