A recent collaboration between law enforcement officers and customs representatives has resulted in the seizure of a substantial cache of illegal drugs, firearms, and ammunition.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s (RSLPF) Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit (GNFU), in partnership with the Customs and Excise Department, conducted a series of impactful joint operations that successfully intercepted narcotics, firearms, and ammunition.
On August 14, during an operation at the General Post Office, a package disguised as confectionery items was intercepted, revealing 620 grams of compressed cannabis resin valued at approximately EC $24,800.
Later the same day, officers executed another operation at Shed No. 7 at the Castries Port, where they seized a shipment of prohibited items concealed among household goods. This included two firearms and 255 rounds of assorted ammunition hidden within flour packets, beverage containers, and other packaging.
On August 15, a follow-up operation at the General Post Office led to the discovery of a package labeled as food products, which contained 3.44 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of EC $86,000.
According to a police spokesperson, these significant seizures highlight the persistent efforts by criminal networks to exploit postal, shipping, and courier channels for smuggling controlled substances and illegal weapons. The sophisticated concealment methods used demonstrate the increasing complexity of these trafficking operations.
The RSLPF stands firm in its commitment to intelligence-led policing and robust inter-agency cooperation in disrupting these criminal networks. Active investigations into these incidents are ongoing.
