Concerned citizen, Buffalo Odlum, Wednesday, called out the Member of Parliament (MP) for Castries Central for changing Serenity Park “at his whims and fancies”.
Odlum says residents were not consulted on the works now taking place for an amphitheatre and concessionary booths scheduled for completion later this month.
“With the name ‘Serenity’, we knew what it was conceptualized to be,” Odlum said.
“These concrete structures that are going there should never be permanent. I think MPs have to stop. We have to stop them because this park was developed for the people. If there’s a tourist element, Pointe Seraphine has a kiosk stage where we could entertain them… But to put these structures there, I think it’s a desecration,” Odlum added.
“I think it’s a very sad time for us,” he said in an interview.
“It is a recreational facility… not an entertainment facility,” he stated.
Castries Central MP Richard Frederick fired back at Odlum on Wednesday, saying since he built the park years ago, he indicated an amphitheatre would be added.
“Residents and performers were literally bothering me to fast-track this. Junior jazz and other successful events requiring the importation of a temporary stage have been successfully hosted there. Today a permanent fixture is being placed and this CLOWN is conducting a one-man circus. I beg to ask, WHO IS THE REAL IDIOT?” the minister said on Facebook.
Frederick told reporters that the amphitheatre was a dream project of his and “we will invite” franchises like Kentucky and Domino’s to come on board.
