Last Saturday Dezral clinched his second Calypso Monarch title at the National Calypso competition finals in what was a memorable night for calypso music in Saint Lucia.

The event showcased captivating performances that addressed crucial domestic, social, and political issues.

Dezral attributed his success to performing first and the relevance of his songs, ‘De Biggest Gun’ and ‘A Wish for Fish,’ which resonated with the community.

‘De Biggest Gun’ depicted the exploits of the island’s ace-sprinter Julien Alfred and her prolific achievements on the tracks ‘Shooting for the Stars’ in contrast to the constant gun violence and carnage on the streets and in the communities. The latter song ‘A Wish for Fish’ was in homage to one of the island’s cultural icons who has blazed the trail and appeared to be temporarily out of public view but ironically, made a guest appearance at the show.

The Power Soca Monarch competition was won by Ricky T for the 23rd time, a record that may stand for a very long time.

The Groovy Soca Monarch Competition was won by Sly in a spectacular display of talent.

Miss Bounty Rum, Shane Lucien was crowned National Carnival Queen on June 29 at the Pavilion on Rodney Bay with a consistent display of poise, confidence and elegance.

Courts Babonneau Steel Orchestra won the panorama competition for the eighth time. The group showed that not even the rains which came down heavily the night of the competition, stifled their enthusiasm.

The Inter-Commercial House Calypso Competition was won by Erny J representing the St. Lucia Workers Credit Union with a performance that truly captivated the audience.

Mongouge Combined and the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School won the primary and secondary school competition in grand style.

Junior carnival results will be announced today at the press conference.
