Sports Minister Kenson Casimir alongwith officials from the ministry of sports and media representatives, last Friday, undertook a thorough tour of the newly renovated Daren Sammy Cricket Ground (DSCG).

The DSCG has undergone a comprehensive transformation, in keeping with plans to transform the playing facility into becoming a premier destination for global events.

A record number of journalists from various media houses on the island were given a tour of the facility. Those present had a first-hand look at the extensive upgrades in time for the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup matches in Saint Lucia.

Minister Casimir and government officials from other respective ministries along with representatives from the Ministry of Finance and National Lotteries Authority [NLA] spoke glowingly about the new and improved look at the DSCG.

Saint Lucia will host three matches in the qualifying round on June 15, 16, and 17, and three matches in the Super 8 slated for June 19, 21, and 24.

Some of the most significant upgrades at the DSCG include, the installation of new lighting, a new electronic scoreboard, a new replay screen, a complete renovation of the entire roofing at the facility, an eye-catching player’s locker room to include hot and cold water, chill tubs, and media center (fully airconditioned).

Meanwhile, work is ongoing on the outside perimeter (car park) and should be completed ahead of the opening encounter between Australia and Scotland scheduled for Saturday.
