Police arrested two men recently after receiving information from the French Authorities about a stolen vessel, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) said this week.
Officers attached to the Marine Unit received a distress call “from the French authorities in Martinique about a vessel located approximately 2.5 nautical miles off the coast of Gros Islet” on Sunday, November 12.
According to the RSLPF, “The Marine Unit responded and assisted the vessel which was occupied by two male individuals.”
Two days later, (on Tuesday, November 14), the Marine Unit received information from the French authorities in Guadeloupe concerning a stolen vessel “fitting the description of the distressed vessel that they assisted previously… consequently, reports of Handling Stolen Goods and Stolen Vessel was made to the Criminal Investigations Department.”
Police located the vessel in the Marigot Port- 40-year-old Shervon St. Clair and 42-year-old Samuel Rigobert of Millet, Anse La Raye (who were both on board) were arrested for the offence of Handling Stolen Goods.
“The vessel was detained and they were subsequently charged,” the RSLPF said in a statement, adding that investigations into this incident revealed that Rigobert is currently on bail for Possession of Ammunition.
“The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and visitors to Saint Lucia, by combating transnational crime through regional collaborative efforts. We encourage anyone with information on this crime or any criminal activity to come forward and report it to the police using the number 555.
