SRDF Host Consultation to Mitigate Crime in Soufriere

The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) recently held a consultation on crime mitigation and visitor harassment in conjunction with the District Representative for Soufriere, Fond St. Jacques and surrounding areas.

In attendance with the District Representative Hon Emma Hippolyte were high-ranking police officials from the Southern Division of the Royal Sanit Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).

“It’s incumbent on the organisation to play a pivotal role in linking the necessary resources to ensure that our community thrives as a safe haven for all its residents, there must be a zero tolerance to crime in all its forms,” said SRDF Operations Manager, Lester Cazaubon.

The SRDF is looking to bolster its social outreach and human empowerment programmes to reduce the propensity for criminal activity. Additionally, the district representative has been actively engaged with the RSLPF in Soufriere to add support to address the shortcomings and capacity needed to strengthen its operations.

The Soufriere Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation. Its mandate is to undertake social, economic, cultural, and other sustainable developments in the Soufriere region. The organisation which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Centre, Soufriere jetties, 88.5 Soufriere FM, and Soufriere Beach Park.

  1. Crime on the Island is a non-starter; for Soufriere, the historical bread basket of the Island, should/must be preserved as an Icon. Some of us take it for granted, but it takes us who have lived abroad for a considerable length of time to really appreciate the Gem that we have in Soufriere. The Bay, where I’ve swam and row my boat, the fish Market by the Bay where I’ve walked admiring fish caught in the morning, ready for the frying Pan and the lovely Pitons and the Lovely white Sandy Beach below, the ever so green vegetation all around, the Sulphur Spring, the whole place was carved out by the hand of the Creator by a Volcanic eruption, just for us; then why should we allow it to be destroyed by some idle, lazy and criminal individuals. Other people travel thousands of miles and spends thousands just to come and enjoy that which we take for granted. Would you let them get away with it, or wouldn’t you set an example? o.k. show that you mean business:- Blessings.
