The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) convened a stakeholder coordination meeting at its Boardroom as preparations intensify for the 2026/2027 cruise ship season. The meeting brought together representatives of key agencies and businesses, including the Soufriere Police, the Soufriere Marine Management Association and the Soufriere/Fond St. Jacques Constituency Council, to address traffic management, safe pedestrian access and security arrangements ahead of the anticipated increase in vehicular and pedestrian activity in the town.
Discussions highlighted the need for collaboration among agencies and businesses operating within and around the waterfront, and for balancing the needs of cruise visitors with those of residents and local businesses, so that increased tourism activity can be accommodated while maintaining public safety and accessibility.
As one of Saint Lucia’s principal tourism destinations, Soufriere stands to benefit from the economic opportunities associated with cruise tourism. Effective coordination among stakeholders remains essential to supporting these opportunities and ensuring a positive visitor experience.
The SRDF says it will continue to engage relevant agencies, tourism partners and members of the business community as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen operational coordination and support for the sustainable development of Soufriere.
The SRDF, which was established in 1993, manages the Sulphur Springs Park, the Gros Piton Nature Trail, the Soufriere Jetties, the Comfort Centre, Colombette Viewing Point, Soufriere Beach Park, and Soufriere FM (88.5 FM).
