The Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement regarding a video that has recently surfaced on social media.
In the video, a male individual expresses frustration about his situation in Saint Lucia and makes concerning comments about violent actions towards himself and others. The Ministry acknowledged the public’s concern regarding the serious nature of these statements.
Through inquiries conducted in collaboration with the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), it has been confirmed that the individual in question is a Saint Lucian national by birth, who was deported from the United States to Saint Lucia in March 2023. It is important to clarify that this individual is not a third-country national and is not affiliated with the Third Country National (TCN) Programme recently announced by the Government of Saint Lucia.
The Ministry, in their statement, emphasized that individuals accepted under the TCN Programme are subject to strict screening and eligibility requirements. Foreign Minister Alva Baptiste, is addressing the TCN issue recently, said the government was committed to ensuring that the implementation of this Programme adheres to established safeguards and prioritizes national security.
The foreign ministry says it takes any statement that may pose a threat to public safety very seriously. It assured that it will continue to coordinate closely with the RSLPF and relevant authorities regarding this matter and will support any necessary actions.
