Every now and then, a young athlete steps onto the track and completely rewrites what we thought was possible. This past weekend at the prestigious Kirani James Athletic Stadium, that athlete was Saint Lucia’s very own Avary Maryat.

Competing at the 2026 Whitsuntide Games against the absolute finest junior talent the Caribbean has to offer, the reigning Juvenile Male Athlete of the Year didn’t just win—he dominated. In a masterclass of pure speed, grit, and technical brilliance, Maryat captured an unforgettable triple-gold medal sweep in the Under-11 division, winning the 100m, 200m, and 300m, while leaving a historic new record in his wake.

From the moment the starter’s pistol fired on Day 1, it was clear that Maryat was operating on an entirely different gear.

In the ultra-competitive 200m dash, he exploded from the blocks, showcasing a devastating transition phase that left his regional rivals chasing shadows. Maryat turned the bend in the 200m with a textbook display of curve running, maintaining a blistering stride frequency down the home straightaway to securing his first gold and breaking his own 2025 record with a time of 27.05.

He crossed the line to secure his second gold in the ultra-competitive 100m dash in day 2, sending an immediate statement of intent to the packed Grenadian stadium.

Then came his true piece de résistance: the 300m. A grueling test of speed-endurance for any young sprinter, Maryat treated the distance like a personal canvas. Running with a veteran’s poise and a prodigy’s engine, he not only captured his third gold medal of the weekend but shattered the event record, etching his name permanently into the Whitsuntide folklore.

Representing his team SP. Survivors Athletic Club, is a massive responsibility, but Maryat handles the pressure with an easy smile and a fierce competitive spirit. The track at the Kirani James Stadium has witnessed some of the greatest athletes in world history, and this weekend, it bore witness to the dawn of a new era.

With three gold medals draped around his neck and a shiny new record to his name, Avary Maryat heads back home to Saint Lucia not just as a local champion, but as the undisputed king of regional youth sprinting.

The Caribbean has been officially put on notice: The Avary Maryat era has truly arrived.
