CPMC Launches ‘Do Road’ – A Community Based Carnival Initiative

.

In local parlance, “Do Road” refers to coming together for recreation and celebration with friends, family, or colleagues. Now, the Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC), is bringing the spirit of Lucian Carnival directly to some of the island’s most vibrant and alluring event locations.

Kicking off at the infamous Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party, Do Road sets the tone for the Carnival season with a dynamic showcase of culture, music, and entertainment. The initiative promises an authentic carnival experience beyond the traditional event calendar, creating opportunities for communities across Saint Lucia to share in the excitement and economic benefits of Carnival.

On Friday, patrons were entertained by electrifying performances from Sedale, Nerdy, Umpa and Ricky T and Hollywood HP. More of the same can be expected as the event moves across the island alongside immersive cultural experiences, featuring local community carnival bands and committees.

Do Road was created to decentralize Carnival by expanding activities into communities and making them a central focus of the season. Through this initiative, the CPMC aims to foster sustainable community based Carnival activities, stimulate local economic activity, and strengthen cultural participation islandwide. As Lucian Carnival continues to evolve, Do Road represents a bold step toward making the festival more accessible and inclusive, for the citizenry.
