Jamaican reggae icon Capleton delivered an extraordinary performance at the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, transcending mere entertainment to inspire the nation with empowering messages.
His presence at the festival, held in Marchand on April 30, was not just another performance; it was a call to action for the youth to embrace positive pathways and combat societal issues.
In a candid post-show interview, Capleton articulated his commitment to motivating the younger generation. He asserted that it is essential for them to seek meaningful roles in life and contribute positively to society.
When asked about the education system and its potential for transformation, Capleton declared, “Knowledge is inherent within the community. Regardless of whether you learn at school or university, self-teaching is key. Ultimately, it’s up to you. Everything is within you, and you have a choice.”
He emphasized, “Music is the voice of the people; it strengthens our youth and ignites their hope and thirst for knowledge. I cannot find God for you—He lives within us all, and you must seek Him for yourself.”

Capleton’s insights extended to the pervasive challenges within education, describing it as potentially harmful. “Brainwashing exists, but you must not succumb to it. From kindergarten to high school and to university, the journey of discovery is within you. You must read the good book of life, and understand the battle of good versus evil.”
He concluded firmly, “Everyone knows right from wrong, and good from bad. It is your responsibility to make the right choice.”
Additionally, Capleton visited Clendon Mason Secondary School in Dennery, engaging with students and teachers through a dynamic discussion. His motivational speech received enthusiastic applause and appreciation.
In a powerful online post, Capleton stated, “Education is the key. I encourage the youth to remain positive. Speaking to the students of @clendonmasonmemorial and performing at @saintluciajazzandartsfest was a joy.”
The Bank of Saint Lucia played a pivotal role in facilitating this impactful social intervention. As the Proud Presenting Sponsor of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival 2026, they organized a memorable surprise visit for the students from the festival’s opening night headliner, Capleton.
Alongside Miss Bank of Saint Lucia 2026, Nyaley Lewis, Capleton delivered a heartfelt message emphasizing discipline, purpose, and the power of self-belief. The Bank of Saint Lucia says it is proud to be more than just a financial institution; they are committed to investing in moments that matter.
