Sensory-Friendly Health Fair to Support Persons with Autism and Disabilities

Persons living with autism and other disabilities, along with their families and guardians, are being encouraged to take advantage of free medical and health services this Saturday, April 18th, at the Ave Maria Primary School in Castries.

The Sensory-Friendly Health Fair, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., is being organized by the Helen Association for Persons with Autism in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Crime Prevention and Persons with Disabilities.

The initiative forms part of activities being held in observance of Autism Awareness Month and is designed to provide accessible, inclusive, and comfortable healthcare services in a supportive environment. Special attention has been given to ensuring that the setting is sensory-friendly, allowing individuals with autism and other sensory sensitivities to receive care with greater ease and comfort.

A wide range of services will be available free of charge, including blood sugar and blood pressure checks, cancer screenings, mental health support, and other essential health assessments. Organizers say the fair aims to remove common barriers to healthcare access and promote early detection, prevention, and overall well-being within the disability community.

Families are encouraged to attend and make full use of the services offered, as stakeholders continue their commitment to raising awareness, promoting inclusion, and supporting the health and wellness of persons with autism and disabilities across Saint Lucia.
