Today (Saturday), the SLFA Inc. District League Girls Under-15 Championship finals take place at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Dennery.
The stakes are high, and fans can expect two thrilling match-ups featuring the nation’s top young female players.
At 12 noon, Soufriere faces off against Desruisseaux in the Third Place playoffs. In their previous encounter, Janaii Prevost scored a hat-trick, leading Soufriere to a commanding 3-0 victory.
While Soufriere is favored, Desruisseaux is determined to bounce back after their semifinal disappointment.
The finals will kick off at 2:00 p.m., featuring Anse La Raye versus Dennery. Anse La Raye holds the advantage after winning their earlier matchup 2-1.
The teams each reached the finals through different routes: Anse La Raye triumphed in a tense penalty shootout, 3-2, against Soufriere, while Dennery secured a solid 2-0 victory over Desruisseaux. Both finalists are filled with confidence as they prepare for this decisive game.
Dennery’s head coach, Ruphinia Joseph, emphasized the resilience and preparation that her team exhibited. “It was a challenge in the semifinal because we were one player short,” she acknowledged. “But nothing is impossible, and my girls maintained their focus and played to win.”
Joseph added, “It feels incredible. I knew we would make it here. My girls are exceptionally talented and skilled. They have a bright future ahead, and we are committed to training hard to secure the victory on Saturday.”
Anse La Raye coach Jovette Wilson expressed her team’s determination to secure another victory over Dennery, while also recognizing the need for improvement.
“We have already beaten Dennery once in this tournament,” she stated confidently. “We’ll execute our game plan and work on our defensive strategies to ensure we win again.”
