A family from Vieux-Fort is shattered with grief following the grisly discovery of their loved one, whose decomposing body was discovered on Monday January 12, 2026 at Beanefield, Vieux-Fort.

The body of Norbert Crick, 66, a charcoal producer of Docamel, La Ressource, Vieux Fort, was discovered by a security guard, who sometimes spend time with him at his work site.

His grieving family, who is struggling to come to terms with the harsh reality, said while their loved one was with the security guard, a man dressed all in black was seen heading towards the area where he produces coals. According to them, the deceased went to see whether the man was stealing his property, but it was the last time he was seen by anyone.

They described the incident as heartbreaking.

According to a family member, she received the sad news from a cousin, who told her that the body of her uncle was found in the Beanfield area.

She said she proceeded to the scene but was not allowed to view the body.

According to the family member, upon her arrival at the scene, she observed several of his personal items on the ground.

“The only thing that was missing was his pouch. We found his phone, keys, chainsaw and his bag,” the family member lamented, adding that they were told that there were lacerations to his head.

She said it appears that there was a struggle between him and his perpetrator after which his body was dumped down a cliff.

“I don’t know he had issues with anyone,” the family member said, adding that it was after his death, she got to know that he had an issue with someone who was constantly stealing his property.

“We are hoping that the police catch the person who committed the crime,” the family member said.

According to her, the deceased, who sleeps in a shack near the area he makes his charcoal, was always by himself and chose his friends carefully.

“He usually sleeps under the bush,” she said, adding that she felt it was a dangerous thing to do.

“It’s a very sad situation. No one deserves to die like that. We want the person who killed our uncle pay for what he did. We want justice…” she grieved

According to her, the deceased has been making charcoal in the area for quite a few years.
