Saint Lucia’s Minister for Education, Youth Development, Sports, and Digital Transformation, Kenson Casimir, delivered a firm back-to-school address for the 2025-2026 academic year.
As the newly appointed minister, he asserted that supporting students’ mental and emotional health is a non-negotiable focus as they return to the classroom.
This marks a decisive shift towards a holistic approach to education, emphasizing well-being alongside academic preparation. The Ministry of Education, Sustainable Development, and Innovation is actively driving these back-to-school initiatives.
As the new school year commences, Minister Casimir wishes students, parents, teachers, and administrators a successful and productive academic year.
“Taking on this responsibility compels me to envision the future of education under my leadership,” he declared, thanking Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre for entrusting him with the “care and development of our future leaders.”
Casimir acknowledged the valuable contributions of former Education Minister Shawn Edward and committed to advancing the work initiated by his predecessor and the ministry’s dedicated staff.
“I am confident that we can collectively usher in a new chapter focused on learning and educational transformation,” he stated emphatically.
This transition marks not only the start of a new academic term but also the continuation of “our journey toward building a 21st-century education system that equips every learner for success on academic, social, and personal levels,” the minister noted.
The ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences that empower all students with the knowledge, skills, and values required to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
Minister Casimir urged students to excel in their pursuits—whether in science, sports, or other fields—stating, “The development of our nation’s children is paramount. Education transcends mere exam passing; it builds confidence and character.”
He expressed deep gratitude to teachers, emphasizing, “Your role is vital in shaping the hearts and minds of our future leaders. I am committed to ensuring you receive the support, training, and resources necessary to excel in your profession.”
Casimir highlighted the “indispensable partnership” with parents and guardians as crucial for fostering a supportive path for young students.
“Education is a collective responsibility; when homes, schools, and communities come together, we exponentially enhance our children’s chances of success,” the minister asserted.
In conclusion, he urged, “Let’s cultivate a culture of engagement and dialogue in every household. I bring the same energy, passion, and commitment to my role as I did in sports, where we championed inclusivity, innovation, and the transformative power of opportunity.”
Furthermore, within the key policy points highlighted in the Prime Minister’s Budget Address, the focus rests on digital integration, youth empowerment, and adequate budget allocations for schools and infrastructure.
The Education Minister articulated the following Key Themes in the 2025-2026 Address :
– Digital Transformation: A steadfast commitment to integrating technology in classrooms, preparing students for the digital economy, and enhancing digital literacy.
– Infrastructure & Resources: Commitment to school repairs, new facilities, and ensuring equitable access to learning materials for all.
– Youth Development: Strong connection between education and sports, skills training, addressing youth unemployment, and promoting active civic engagement.
