DSH Project Site Now an Unpleasant Sight

The site of Desert Star Holdings (DSH) project at Beausejour, Vieux-Fort, has been taken over by thick bushes, making it an unpleasant sight.

The once attractive site with a horse racing track has been overgrown with bushes since after the discontinuation of horse racing there in 2021, when the current administration came into office.

The horse racing track was the first phase of the controversial US$2.6 billion project, which was the brainchild of the former administration.

A section of the land which was leased to Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of DSH, a Hong Khong-based company, is now used as a pasture for cattle owners.

At a fleeting glance it is difficult for one to tell whether there was a horse racing track at the site, due to its condition.

The site is being guarded by security personnel.

According to a former employee on the project, several items have been stolen from the site since it has been abandoned.

“Items such as furniture, windows and a few other items of not much value have been stolen from buildings on the site. At the moment, there are just a few old defective vehicles left on the site and a few empty buildings,” the former employee on the project told this reporter.

“It’s just bushes all over, you can’t even make out the track itself,” the former employee added.

Last year, items from the site were carried away by containers to another country.

Some of the vehicles were sold to locals.

Prior to the land being leased, the area was used as a communal pasture for cattle owners in the south of the island.

The leasing of the land had resulted in several cattle owners losing their cattle, after they went astray and were never seen again by their owners.
