Team Saint Lucia Set to Compete at W/Wards School Games

This weekend, junior sub-regional athletes will fiercely compete for championship titles as the 2025 CBN/WINLOTT Windward Islands School Games kick off in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

Saint Lucia has assembled a strong, competitive team ready to dominate at this year’s Windward Islands School Games, fueled by excitement, pride, and determination.

This week, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports announced the 62-member Saint Lucia National School Team, poised to make a significant impact at the Windward Islands School Games, taking place from July 26 to August 2.

During a presentation ceremony at Castries City Hall, key figures, including Sports Director Clivus Jules, enthusiastic families, and members of the Ministry’s Communications Unit, gathered to support the athletes.

These athletes were carefully selected based on their exceptional performances throughout the 2024–2025 school sports season and will compete in five key disciplines: athletics, basketball (male and female), football, netball, and volleyball (male and female). Having placed third in the previous 2023 championship, Saint Lucia is determined to reclaim the title and showcase their skills.

A spokesperson from MYDS acknowledges the competition will be tough, noting formidable rivals in neighboring Dominica, defending champions Grenada, and host nation Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

In total, 248 athletes across the four competing countries will vie for top honors.

Leading the charge are standout athletes: – Benique Mann, Destinee Cenac, Syesha Rogers, Clowie William (Athletics) – Naija Ferdinand, Darla Dupre (Netball) – Malik Louis, Josh George, Michael Justin (Football) – Peter Emmanuel, Daniel Mayers-James, Delano Baptiste (Male Volleyball) – Angelique Marquis, Clarise Nervais, Abigail Evans (Female Volleyball) – Jayxan Justin, Junior Dupre, Ethan Desrivieres, Glen Guiste (Male Basketball) – Brianda Delice, Aleesa Prospere, Neeana Francois (Female Basketball).

The team benefits from experienced coaching and mentorship led by Cuthbert Modeste (Athletics), Garrick George, Germaine Thomas (Basketball), Sabattus Hunte (Football), Joseph Clercent, Terry Verdant (Volleyball), and Shem Maxwell (Netball).
