The Saint Lucia Chess Federation (SLCF) has commended the national chess team on a commendable 6th place finish at the recently concluded CARICOM Classic 2025 Team Chess Tournament, held in George Town, Guyana.
The five-member delegation representing Saint Lucia included Dr. Sixtus Gabriel, Candidate Master (CM) Kaieem Elizee, Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Chelsea Wahid, and Kiara Lambert. They were led by Head of Delegation and SLCF Secretary, Tori Mason.

In addition to the main team competition, players also participated in a Caribbean Blitz Tournament, where CM Elizee secured an impressive 5th place finish, and Dr. Gabriel placed 10th. For many team members, this was their debut CARICOM tournament, and their participation resulted in gains in international ratings.
The SLCF noted that the tournament provided an invaluable opportunity for Saint Lucian players to challenge some of the region’s best talents, while also strengthening camaraderie and sportsmanship across participating nations.

A total of ten teams from seven CARICOM countries—Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago—competed over the six-day championship. Following nine intense rounds of play, Trinidad and Tobago clinched the championship title, with Jamaica and Suriname finishing in second and third place, respectively.

The SLCF expressed pride in the team’s performance and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the development of chess in Saint Lucia.
