Team Saint Lucia kicked off its campaign with a commanding 49-run victory over Grenada at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground (DSCG) on Monday, making significant progress in the race for the 2025 Windward Islands Super 50 Championship title.

Batting first, Saint Lucia faced an early setback with a lost wicket but quickly established control as Ackeem Auguste and skipper Kimani Melius forged a crucial partnership of 74 for the second wicket.

Melius was dismissed for 27, but Auguste flourished, scoring an impressive 51 off 57 balls. Shadrack Descarte (45) and Tarrique Edward (30) then combined for the match’s highest partnership, forming an 83-run stand for the fifth wicket.

At 205 for 4 with 18 overs remaining, Saint Lucia appeared poised for a massive total. However, they slid to 234 for 9 after losing five quick wickets.

In a remarkable display of resilience, Keon Gaston (43 not out) and Shawnil Edward (32) put together a stunning 73-run partnership for the tenth wicket, pushing the home team past the 300-run mark. Grenada’s Darel Cyrus stood out with the ball, taking 3 for 51, while the Murray twins (Kirt and Kirtsen) each finished with 2 for 48.

Chasing a target of 308, Grenada faltered, ending up at 144 for 7. Although the Murray twins, with Kirt scoring 50 and Kirtsen 37, attempted to revive their innings with a 74-run partnership, their efforts fell short.

For Saint Lucia, Keon Gaston (3 for 30), Jaden Elibox (2 for 33), Shawnil Edward (2 for 40), and Shadrack Descarte (2 for 53) made significant contributions with the ball.

Taking the first knock , SVG unleashed an astonishing total of 405 for 7 in their 50 overs. The innings was anchored by stellar centuries from Sunil Ambris, who scored 124 off 99 balls with 8 fours and 8 sixes, and Dillon Douglas, whose 120 came from just 88 balls with 13 fours and 6 sixes.

The pair dominated a fifth-wicket partnership of 201 that unfolded in only 24.3 overs. After a shaky start at 36 for 3, Ambris and Keron Cottoy (52) revived SVG’s innings with an 88-run stand for the fourth wicket before Cottoy was dismissed by Jedd Joseph, who claimed the best bowling figures of 3 for 66.

During their chase, Dominica initially solidified their position with an opening stand of 51 between Jelani Robinson and Stephan Pascal. However, after Pascal fell for 28, Robinson added 50 runs alongside Alick Athanaze (37) before departing for 38.

SVG’s Ethan Gibson excelled with the ball, claiming 2 for 19, supported by Jeremy Haywood and Rayon Williams, who each took two wickets.
