In light of the alarming surge in gun violence and deadly shootings across both the city and rural areas, the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has unequivocally condemned these acts.
The SLP stands firmly behind Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, also Minister for National Security and parliamentary representative for Castries East, and law enforcement in their unwavering battle against crime.
In a recent press release dated July 20, the SLP extended its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the latest victims, declaring that senseless violence has no place in a society that upholds peace, justice, and the rule of law.
“We fully support the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s lawful efforts to restore calm and safety,” the statement asserted.
“We reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the national fight against crime through prevention, enforcement, and community engagement.”
Moreover, the SLP condemned the “shameful attempts” by opposition members to exploit recent tragedies for political gain. The release emphasized that using national mourning for political maneuvering is reckless and dishonourable, urging leaders from all parties to respond to crime with unity, maturity, and responsibility.
“We call on every citizen to reject fear, division, and those who seek to politicize our collective pain,” the statement continued, urging the public to remain calm and support law enforcement in capturing perpetrators and preventing further violence.
Reiterating its commitment to national development, the SLP pledged to advance efforts for safer communities, enhanced support for police officers, and the creation of more opportunities for Saint Lucia’s youth.
“Together, we will confront this dark moment with strength, solidarity, and a shared determination to protect our beloved country,” the statement concluded.
This release arrives amid rising public concern following a series of violent incidents that have shaken communities and intensified calls for stronger crime-fighting measures.
While authorities have yet to confirm any connections among recent acts of violence, investigations are ongoing.
The SLP’s statement has intensified the national discourse, highlighting the urgent necessity for a united front in tackling the escalating threat of gun violence in Saint Lucia.
