SLFA Launches Referee Recruitment Drive Amid Football Growth

With football on the rise and the Semi-Pro Football League continuing to expand its reach across the island, new opportunities are emerging in Saint Lucia’s growing sports sector—particularly for young people looking to get involved in officiating the game.

As the primary governing body for football on island, the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) has announced a new referee recruitment and training initiative aimed at building capacity among local match officials. The program is open to both males and females between the ages of 15 and 30, and seeks to strengthen the sport’s foundation by investing in quality officiating at all levels.

According to the SLFA, the initiative is part of its broader mandate to professionalize football in Saint Lucia and ensure that all matches—from grassroots to semi-pro—are overseen by well-trained and certified referees.

“We are building more than just a league—we are building careers, leadership, and discipline through football,” said a representative from the SLFA. “This is a great opportunity for young Saint Lucians to step into the game in a meaningful way.”
