The Bankers Association of Saint Lucia (BASL) is urging the general public to exercise extreme caution in light of a recent surge in fraudulent text messages and phone calls being reported by customers of local financial institutions.
These scams often involve messages or calls claiming to be from a bank, alerting customers of suspicious transactions or urging them to “verify” personal or banking information. Victims are sometimes instructed to click on malicious links or share sensitive data such as account numbers, online banking credentials, or one-time verification codes.
Please be advised:
• No legitimate financial institution in Saint Lucia will ever request your personal banking information via text message, phone call, email, or social media.
• Do not click on suspicious links or respond to unexpected messages claiming to be from your bank.
• If you receive a call that seems suspicious, hang up immediately and call your bank directly using the number listed on its official website or documentation.
The Bankers Association is actively working with local authorities, mobile service providers, and member banks to investigate and curtail these fraudulent activities. Public awareness remains our strongest defense.
What you should do:
• Report any suspicious messages or calls to your bank immediately.
• Avoid sharing personal or financial details unless you are certain of the legitimacy of the request.
• Inform elderly relatives or less tech-savvy individuals who may be more vulnerable to such schemes.
We are committed to protecting the integrity of the banking system and ensuring the safety of all customers. Your vigilance and cooperation are essential in preventing financial fraud.
