“Life as we know it is under attack… Time for us to Adapt.”

Students of the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School (SISS) are taking the climate change issue head-on with their contribution to an adaptive audio-visual project that powerfully highlights the impacts of this pressing phenomenon.
Saint Lucia’s National Adaptation Planning (NAP) process is gearing up for significant advancements, bolstered by the government’s acquisition of a Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme Grant.
This funding is critical in enhancing the country’s planning structure to combat climate change.
Managed by the Department of Sustainable Development (DSD), this project is essential in strengthening Saint Lucia’s capacity to respond to and prepare for the unpredictable challenges posed by the changing climate.
Recognizing the importance of this initiative, the GCF Readiness Project includes a robust Communications and Engagement Strategy designed to mobilize stakeholders and enhance awareness of climate change resilience and adaptation. Rooted in creativity and culture, this plan aims to reach diverse audiences through the creation of memorable content.

The Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School band and choir have been selected to partner with the DSD to perform a powerful Calypso Jingle titled “Adapt” and star in the accompanying music video.
The school boasts a vibrant music program under the guidance of Kitje Greaves, an accomplished young musician. The choir has earned recognition as the three-time reigning champions of the National Schools’ Choir Competition, and the school holds the title for Junior Calypso Monarch for both 2023 and 2024.
Over the past three months, the choir has dedicated its efforts to mastering the original composition “Adapt,” a song that urgently calls for climate action and encourages embracing change to safeguard homes and livelihoods.
“We must change our ways… Life as we know it is under attack… Time for us to Adapt,” the students passionately declare with a melodic refrain on the track.
A professionally produced music video complements the track, exposing students to the industry and providing them with valuable experiences, especially the band members who recorded in a fully equipped studio.
This initiative actively engages youth, positioning them at the forefront of raising awareness on climate change resilience and adaptation.
The final product is part of a national awareness campaign dubbed #adapt.
Special thanks to Corporate Saint Lucia for their commitment to providing new instruments for the school.
