With the 501 Darts Classic concluding on a thrilling finale, last weekend – Haig Louis triumphed in a high-stakes battle, narrowly defeating Lambert Charles 3–2 to claim the singles crown, while Marcia Dorvill dominated the women’s final, convincingly beating Catherine Clemont 2–0.
This championship showcased intense competition, remarkable victories, and a decisive message about the promising future of darts in Saint Lucia.
On July 9, the Saint Lucia Darts Association (SLDA), with the support of Gros Islet Parliamentary Representative Kenson Casimir, wrapped up the championships in grand fashion with an awards ceremony at Prio’s Bar and Grill in Corinth.
The formidable team Untouchable A solidified their legacy with a commanding 5–2 victory over Stallions, extending their unbeaten streak and securing the team title.
Individual honors: Most 180s (two) and Shortest Game (14 darts): Shervon Montoute.
Highest Checkout (136): Martin Charlemagne.
The competition breaks off for the Lucian Carnival festivity and resumes with the Trophy Centre 501 Classic in August.
Minister for Youth Development and Sports Casimir commended the SLDA for its bold vision and relentless advocacy. He highlighted the numerous proposals he’s received, from sponsorship requests to the installation of dart boards in schools, demonstrating the association’s unwavering commitment to nurturing the sport from the grassroots level.
“You cannot develop the sport without a school program,” the Minister asserted, emphasizing that Saint Lucia’s 7,000–10,000 students are essential to cultivating a new generation of darting talent.
“If you want something to flourish, you must bring it to them,” he added.
With plans well underway to launch school-based darts competitions this year, the Ministry is collaborating with the SLDA to integrate the sport into school curricula and enhance access for young players.
The Minister also highlighted the critical role of women in sports development, urging the SLDA to actively engage young girls not only on the dartboard but also in organizing and leadership roles. He stated that the involvement of young females will undoubtedly drive the sport’s growth within the school system.
As medals were awarded and celebrations erupted, it was evident that the 501 Darts Classic had ignited a movement beyond mere competition; it has paved the way for community engagement, youth empowerment, and national advancement.
