UWP Celebrates Sir John’s 100th Birthday

The United Workers Party (UWP) celebrated the life and legacy of Sir John Compton yesterday on what would have been his 100th birthday.

The members of the UWP visited Sir John Compton’s statue at Constitution Park to reflect on their founder’s impact.

“Sometimes it’s important for us to understand where we’ve come from, to help us (determine) where we’re going… and so we cannot let this just be a relic of the past,” Opposition Leader Allen Chastanet told THE VOICE yesterday.

“His statue is here for a reason and it’s not only for what he did in terms of bringing Independence to Saint Lucia… but it’s the development he did for the people, his… constituencies; bringing water, bringing schools… allowing people to get the freedom of being indentured workers,” he noted.
