The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force Marine Unit Concludes Basic Seamanship Course

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force Marine Unit has successfully concluded its Basic Seamanship Course, which was held from March 3 to April 11, 2025. Over the six-week period, nineteen officers representing the Marine Unit, Special Services Unit, and Coastal Surveillance Unit participated in the training.

Throughout the course, participants were exposed to a wide range of topics aligned with the principles of seamanship. These included nautical terminology, boat handling, navigation and chart work, rules of the road (COLREGS), rope work and knot tying, anchoring techniques, marine communications, basic first aid, and survival at sea. The officers also received instruction in search and rescue patterns, vessel maintenance, and maritime law enforcement practices.

To ensure a comprehensive and impactful learning experience, subject matter experts were engaged to deliver instruction on a wide range of interrelated topics, further enhancing the depth and quality of the course content.
