Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, officially assumed the chairmanship of the Regional Security System (RSS) Council of Ministers, on April 1, succeeding Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The RSS was created out of a need for a collective response to security threats that were impacting the stability of the region.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Pierre pledged to be proactive in advancing the safety and security of the region.
“I wish to express my gratitude to Hon. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and outgoing Chairman of the Regional Security System (RSS) Council of Ministers on his leadership–particularly on his scientific work in examining violence as a public health issue.
As the new Chairman of the RSS, I accept this responsibility with humility, with purpose, and with an unwavering commitment to advancing the safety and security of our Caribbean region. I do so with deep conviction in the power of regional unity and collective action.
“The RSS, more than ever, must be our tool for collective action. It is the most formidable security mechanism available to us. If we continue to join forces, share intelligence, and coordinate responses, we stand a real chance of turning the tide on escalating violence. To safeguard our region’s future, we must deepen our unity, renew our purpose, and act with urgency,” he said.
As Chairman, Prime Minister Pierre is responsible for approving the mobilization of RSS Forces; approving financial arrangements of the RSS; approving the contract of the Executive Director; hosting the Annual Council of Ministers meeting in March 2026; and hosting any other meetings of the Council as deemed necessary.
Prime Minister Pierre’s leadership underscores Saint Lucia’s commitment to regional security cooperation, ensuring a proactive and coordinated approach to safeguarding citizens and strengthening security frameworks.
