The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre, has officially assumed the chairmanship of the Regional Security System (RSS) Council of Ministers, effective April 1, 2025, succeeding Dr. Terrence Drew, Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister Pierre attended the RSS Council of Ministers Meeting yesterday in St Kitts, where regional security matters were discussed.
As Chairman, Saint Lucia is responsible for:
• Approval authority for any mobilization of RSS Forces;
• Approval authority for financial arrangements of the RSS;
• Hosting the Annual Council of Ministers meeting in March 2026 and any other meetings of the Council deemed necessary;
• Approval authority for the contract of the Executive Director, if required.
As the region contends with unprecedented and persistent gun violence and other emerging threats, the need for collective action and unity has never been more critical. As the new chairman of the RSS, Prime Minister Pierre’s leadership underscores Saint Lucia’s commitment to regional security cooperation, ensuring a proactive and coordinated approach to safeguarding citizens and strengthening security frameworks.
In PM Pierre’s absence Education Minister Shawn Edward will act as prime minister.
