
In a landmark first visit to Guyana, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), will headline the 13th ILO Meeting of Caribbean Labour Ministers on 7 April 2025, at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Georgetown, Guyana.
Under the theme “Decent Work for Resilience: Securing the Future of Caribbean Labour,” this high-level gathering—co-hosted by the ILO and the Government of Guyana—will bring together labour ministers, policymakers, and social partners to discuss key labour and employment issues shaping the future of work in the region.
The ILO Director-General will address the Opening Ceremony, alongside:
- Welcome remarks: Hon. Joseph Hamilton, MP, Minister of Labour, Guyana; and
- Opening remarks: Hon. Daren Pinard, Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
- Feature address: Hon. Dr Ashni Singh, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and Public Service;
During his visit, the Director-General is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with high-level officials from the Government of Guyana, the United Nations system, and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The agenda also includes strategic consultations with representatives from employers’ organizations and trade union federations, reinforcing the ILO’s commitment to tripartite dialogue.
