The United Workers Party (UWP) will make five announcements at a National Public Meeting tomorrow in Dennery.
“It’s going to be massive. We are introducing new candidates for the United Workers Party in the upcoming general election,” UWP spokesperson Nancy Charles said on Facebook.
The meeting will take place at Level Grounds from 6:00 p.m.
“The United Workers Party is ready to lead the way,” the UWP said, and, “This is your chance to hear from the leaders who will shape our future.”
So far, the UWP has introduced two candidates for the upcoming election: Rosh Clarke, who will contest the Castries Central parliamentary seat, and former Customs Comptroller Peter Chiquot, who will contest Castries East.
Leanna Johannes (or “Lady Lee”) of Hot FM, attorney Wayne Harrow, and finance professional Marcella Johnson have also indicated their interest.
“We believe in strong, decisive leadership, investing in law enforcement, strengthening our justice system and implementing practical solutions to curb violent crime. The people of Saint Lucia deserve a government that prioritizes their security, not one that throws its hands in the air while criminals take control,” the UWP said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Furthermore, the party stated, “Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has failed Saint Lucians as Minister for National Security. Under his leadership, homicides have surged by a staggering 25%, with 2024 marking yet another record-breaking year, 77 homicides recorded.”
“The safety of our citizens is non-negotiable, yet under Pierre’s watch, families continue to mourn, communities live in fear, and criminals operate with impunity. His government has no real strategy to tackle crime, no sense of urgency, and no commitment to restoring law and order,” the UWP added.
In Thursday’s post, the party vowed that “A United Workers Party (UWP) administration will do more to make Saint Lucia safer.”
“It’s time for real leadership”, the UWP added.
